Default 2006 C70 Struts

I Got estimates from 1500 to 1800 to replace the front struts. I am a decent back yard mechanic so I was wondering how difficult is it just to change them myself. I have access to a lift but if it is super difficult I don't want to open a can of worms.

Edit: It is a 2006 c70 T5

No need for a lift, this can be done with standard tools plus a spring compressor (or two lol). It helps to have a compressor or an electric/battery impact wrench to speed the compressing of the spring. You may need to check if your car has the standard struts (I believe the C70s share parts with the S40/V50s not the V70s) or if you have the 4C system with the electronically damped shocks (a quick look to see if there's a wire plugging into the strut and if the strut appears fatter). The 4Cs are what's in the R models and cost like 3-4X versus OEM standard shock replacements (Sachs/Febi are the oem supplier for the strut/mount/bearing). You will also want to use fresh bolts. Not sure, but there may also be quick assembly kits available where the complete strut comes preassembled with new springs. They cost but don't require assembly. A third option is to do the strut removal/install yourself and have an indy tech do the strut assembly on the bench.

I think I’ll give it a go. Thanks for the reply.

My '08 C70 has different struts than those shown in the videos. There are no bolts that hold them to the spindle assy. It appears that the strut sits in a pocket on the bottom. How is it fastened?
