99 C70.. Hard Start...P0442
Have found this site an invaluable resource... want to thank you all for saving me mucho $$..
I have a 99 C70 convertible with the 2.4 turbo. Month ago I got a check engine .. P0442 Leak EVAP system - small. replaced filler cap, but it came back and I ignored. Friday morning I go to start and find I am cranking for what seems an obscene amount of time. This seems to get worse as the w/e progresses. Eventually after a lot of forum time I find priming the system by turning the key a few times improves the situation and leads me to believe I am losing pressure at the fuel rail and fairly quickly. (If I let the car sit about five minutes it becomes difficult to start). BTW once started the car runs fine.
Judging from the online chatter, I believe I either have a problem with the check valve at the fuel pump or I have a problem at the fuel pressure regulator.
I see a potential fix for the check valve by installing an additional universal valve by the fuel filter (instead of replacing the pump). This seems fairly straightforward, but I have seen verbiage that Volvo suggests the pressure regulator as the preferred fix.
Anybody have any ideas? How do I narrow down to the correct fix?

1) loosen the exhaust from all the rubber hangs and then the bracket just before the muffler, at this point the rear of the exhaust will hang enough for u to take out the heat sheild under the rear resonator - take the sheild out. You can use a jack to hold up the exhaust system
2) look below the canister under the rear cross member, you will see 2 12mm bolts, remove these and it will loosen the canister bracket
3) feel the bracket on the canister on the side towards the gas cap, theres a valve the slides into the bracket (one end of the jhose is on this valve), remove the entire valve by sliding it off the bracket (life upwards)
4) remove the jhose and the other hose from the valve as that might be cracked too ( note where the other hose is plugged into, its a pipe thats coming down from the gas filler) - replace both hoses
5) remove the jhose from the other side of the canister and replace it.
6) reassemble is opposite or disassemble.
Hope this helps... if you're doing this in you garage with jack stands and jack, be aware you're going to spend some time on your back for a while. .. good luck :-)

thanks...I'll take a look at that tomorrow. I had no idea where to begin with that.
For anybody else having a hard start condition. I could have sworn it was a fuel delivery problem. However I did have pressure at the fuel rail. Car every now and again was throwing a P0116 code (out of range coolant temperature sensor). Also the fan had begun to run for a few minutes after shutdown for no apparent reason. Some internet snooping later and I find that the temp sensor controls some aspects of priming. I replaced the ECT and the thermostat and VOILA... hard start condition fixed.
Thanks again
