Default Brake Pedal feels too soft

Hi Tech,

The brake pedal on my 01 c70 feels too soft. I almost have to push it to the floor while braking, seems like there is too much play in it. I just had the pads replaced earlier this year, the car stops pretty good but the pedal just has alot of play and has to be pushed to the floor. Any ideas what may cause this/is this normal, do the brakes need to be bleed, or maybe master cylnder replaced? I thought it maybe the rotors but the car doesnt seem to shimmy or shake while braking at high speed.

Thanks

If the pedal feels consistently spongy then bleeding the brakes may do the trick. If on top of the general sponginessyou also notice that the brake pedal slowly sinks further, when you keep your foot on it with force applied, then that is an indication of a faulty master cylinder.

What the man says - try a bleed first which should work (at least for a short while) - if the sponginess returns it's your master cylinder.

Try bleeding it first.
