Default immobilizer issues

So TECH, last month the immobilizer antenna was replaced in my 02 c70 much to my chagrin. You will recall that you commented on my dilemma.

For the past two weeks my c70 has been at the dealer in an effort to make it whole again. It mimics the antenna issue. Now the immobilizer itself is being replaced but the computer is having an issue communicating with the auto. Unbelievable! It has been two weeks obtaining parts from Volvo and trying to get the auto started. At any rate, I will give you an update as to the final cost and the repair parts. The antenna was $205.81 to replace and I have the feeling that $600.00 more will take care of the second issue. It's not the money issue that bothers me as the sum is insignificant next to the vexation of simply getting the auto back on the road.

I agree with you 100%.

You should have had the car back atleast a week ago!!!

"The antenna was $205.81 to replace" WOW the labor should be like .50 and the part is like $70.00 or so I believe.

Up-date on the immobilizer. The second one was installed and still cannot "talk" to the ECM. The regional Volvo rep. has now suggested replacing the ECM. I will probably end up with all new electronics???

Final chapter on the old c70 TECH. I received the auto back today.............two antenna rings, one immobilizer, and one ECM later. After those parts did not correct the problem of no start and the computer continued to tell the tech that those were the issues, he took the computer box out and lo and behold, a loose connector. A pinch of the finger and voila..............problem solved and in only three weeks!

In addition, the regional Volvo tech was working on it also! That is one of the issues of a computerized auto. The computer tells the tech what is wrong and refuses to change the diagnosis because it was programmed for "part" failures and not simple issues. Quite frankly independant shops probably could have found the issue quicker as they do not have access to the Volvo computer and so they chase down the "obvious" rather than what the computer sayes. Oh well.............it's only money............

Im not at the dealer anymore and it usually takes a little while for us to find out this type of info.
Is there a TN note on it yet?

Interestingly both BMW and Volkswagen have always had problems with their waterproof connectors. They truly are not waterproof and Volvo has generally had a tight harness. Strange!!
