Default Brakes rattling?

09 C70 brakes rattle going over bumps while moving. When I apply the brakes they stop rattling. Pads look good. How can I stop the rattling?

Default brakes

40K miles and I just bought the car. I really do not know if they are aftermarket pads. front calipers are red, rear ones are gray. all seem to rattle over bumps. I did remove a front wheel and looked at them. all seem to look normal. why would aftermarket pads make a difference in rattling noise? help me understand.

Ive had a couple P1 cars with aftermarket pads that rattle. Try putting new pads on there. Are you sure its the brakes making the noise. The nuts for the rear sway bar links are know for coming loose on those C70s.

Default sway bar

I did replace one rear sway bar link that was warn and rattling. I will try new pads. which brand works the best (no rattling) with the C70? Dealer pads are $110.94

Some aftermarket pads don't have the anti rattle spring built onto the pad that goes on the inside. Or some indy shop puts them on wrong and installs the one with the spring on the outside. Seen it plenty of times.

Spring on the outside? I have two wire/springs on the outside of the caliper. is this correct? I looked for a Chilten/Haynes book for my car with no luck.

Yes, but the inner pad has a spring built into it. At least, the Volvo ones. Cheap aftermarket ones may not. If they do, I've seen people install the pads wrong so they rattle.

ES6T, you have been a great help on this matter. I will check into the pads closer.

I took front pads apart and found out that the front calipers do not have that anti-rattle spring on them. (the spring/clip on the outside of the caliper) The rear ones do, but still rattle. I will try new anti-rattle clips for both the front and rear.

Do the rear pads have a spring on the top of the inner pad? If none of the rear pads have a spring on the top, they are cheap aftermarket ones and they will rattle.
