C70 Overheating
Hi Guys, This morning I was on my way to work and I looked at my temp gauge and it had maxed out and I was like WTF ?! I managed to crawl into work as I was pretty close. right as I was about to park, it started to smoke out of the bonnet and I was thinking...GREAT! another problem. I opened the Hood and the coolant was bubbling out of the cover and after about 20 seconds after turning the engine off it stopped smoking and bubbling. I left it as it was as I had to go to work but any ideas of what that could be ?
I put my foot down only twice on the way to work and it seemed to happen after that. Cooling fan was going crazy when I turned my car off too but i mean thats expected right ?
I changed My MAF last night but that worked fine after a drive. Nothing else has been done.
HELP !

Water pump? Volvo redesigned the unit. It is located between the cams and held in by eight bolts. Of course the thermostat may have had a catastrophic failure and failed 'closed' but generally there is a warning with a failing thermostat as you will gradually have a rising temperature.

Most generally if a head gasket fails you will see plentiful white smoke billowing from the tail pipe. Now I understand that you refilled the radiator and you are not experiencing a high temperature? It would therefore point the finger to your thermostat. Now a word of caution. Do not run 'straight' water through your Volvo engine! Water and aluminum do not make good mates! You must have some coolant which has anti-corrosive qualities contained within it. In fact, I for years (40+) always run a can of water pump lubricant with my bi-annual coolant change.
