Default Cooling fan turns on when start up

Hello 👋
I’m new owner of c70 Volvo (07 I think )
Now seeking your expertise-
as soon as I start car the radiator fan kicks in at max air intake -
feeling it being sucked in from front bumper ..
comes on and stays on until car is turned off...
can someone point
me in the right direction of diagnosis and or what it will cost to fix?... only just bought it and still can’t afford to put rego on it !!
wasn’t doing it last week when I bought it.
just after letting someone use it 😤

could be one of several things - bad switch, bad relay, bad temp sensor. Does your engine temp gauge wander or read higher than normal? Sometimes this can also be a component within the fan assembly itself so its hard to suggest a cost without some diagnostics.

My cooling comes on even when its cold outside -and it is loud!. After a while it will go off though. If you want something to check, I would look at replacing the fan relay or the thermoswitch. If it were me, I would change out both just to cover my bases. The part number to the thermoswitch is 30650752 and retails for about $70 and takes about 1 hour to replace. Good luck with your new purchase - I purchased mine about 6 months ago, so I know how you feel. Cheers, Lon

Hey there! I know this is an old post so I'm hoping you found a remedy! I got my 04 xc70 about 15 months ago, and after about a week or so of having it, the fan started running all the time. Even when it's twenty below zero, any my car can't even get up to temp lmao. It just randomly happened one day, so it wasn't the fault of whoever drove your car, it's just one of those things apparently lol. I've also seen a couple other forums say the AC system pressure may be low.

Sometimes, my digital displays (not the display all the way to the left with fuel mileage, that one works fine) are either completely off, or completely illegible. It's only worked properly for about 10 minutes, maybe 3 times, the entire time I've had the car. Did you learn any tricks? Tips? anything? lol I'm wondering if it's all connected somehow ...
Thanks!
Kristi

I'm having the same problem, among others, but... my temp guage is fine. I've seen a couple people also mention the pressure in the AC system may be low, and that triggers it. I feel like I may have tried to charge the AC and that's when it started staying on, so maybe that's headed in the right direction. I can't remember if I tried to charge it or not. Maybe I should try that lmao... any other pointers or thoughts?

Default Cooking Fan Startup (Fix)

(I have the answer) For the last week I’ve had the same issue where my cooling(radiator fan) comes on every time I turn on my car to the second I shut it off. I started with changing the coolant temp sensor and then I went with the a new control module which is built into the fan assembly. I went to FCP Euro and purchased the fan assembly and changed it today. Long story short don’t waste your time and make the same mistakes I did and everyone else is. !!!Open your hood, pop the fuse box off on the drivers side. Pull out fuse #19 on the diagram. It will be a 5 amp fuse. That resolved my problem. lol I $5 fuse.!!!
