I have a 99 2.4l with vin 56 for 6th and 7th digit. Do I need to stick to engines with a 56 vin or just 2.4l from 70 series Volvos? Basically what other engines will work with my car.

 

Anything from a 70 series up to about 2004 (I think) should work fine. The main thing you have to match is a turbo engine. If your engine doesn't have a turbo, make sure you get a non turbo engine. If it does, make sure you get a turbo engine. Also, there are two different types of turbos - angled flange or straight flange. You need to make sure the two engines match.
