Hello, wondering if anyone has any suggestions, I have a 1998 C70 and it is giving me some starting trouble. It will start eventually but usually after three tries. First try nothing, second try starts then shuts off, third try.. Im golden.

Second problem - once the car is on, I only have heat sometimes, once the temp reaches half way, no more heat???

The cooling fan seems to turn on right away (even after sitting all night in -10 temp) Once I turn the car off, cooling fan stays on for 5-10 mins... I changed the cooling fan, still the same problem

Any advice?

sounds like your immobilizer antenna is going which is why you are experiencing intermittant starts.

 

Thanks, I will look into that... but it doesnt really explain the no heat..

If it was "going" how long would it take to be gone totally? because this problem has been happening all winter (Nov-March) and it really only happens when the temp drops below -2 Cel.
If the immobilizer antenna is goingwouldntit have been gone by now?

On my c70 I was having intermittant starting issues for a couple of months and finally it went south and no start and a tow to the dealer. After that was changed out I was fine for a while and then no start. Come to find a connector under the computer box was not making good contact. Since then no problem. TECH can relate to you the problems with the antenna. By the way, the antenna ring can be replaced by you rather than the dealer. I use the dealer as I am not in town that often to do the repairs. I cannot help you with the heater but I would think that TECH will enter the picture quite soon and give you some super insite.

The computer was checked, no problems, when I disconnected the cooling fan relay and reconnected, the check engine light went off, it started and I had heat... within a few days, same problem, no heat, check engine light and trouble starting.

I've changed the cooling temp sensor and thermostat still same problem

 

what were the codes for the check engine light

 

SCANCODE P0116 - Engine Coolant Temperature Circuit
have you had the same problem, or heard of this?

 

Turns out it was a faulty thermostat.. all is well.

yep.. it seemed to have worked... we dont have subzero temps any more, but since changing the thermo the temp is running a lot better... thanks
