Smile Hood sticking on Drivers side

The hood on my 2004 C70 wants to stick in the closed position on the Drivers side. I used a a flat heavy pry bar ( wrapped with a towel) under the front of the hood then pulled the release. It then popped open on both sides but after greasing the catch with white grease it still wants to stick. It looks like it may be connected to electrical wires to actuate the release, is this so? I like this little car but seems some things are over engineered.

No, it's a mechanical release. Loosen it and adjust the position.

Question Adjustment failed-Help!

I loosened the bolts and moved the hood lock left and then right, no help. It does not move up or down that I can see. I did put a small sponge under the right side and it provides just enough lift to allow it to raise up out of the lock. New part on order.

My 2004 C70 has the same issue: the hood won't open on the driver's side. After looking closely I've determined that there isn't enough spring preload to lift the hood when the latch is released. If you lift the hood slightly while someone activates the hood lever, the hood will come up.

So the problem isn't that the latch isn't releasing, it's that the hood doesn't rise enough to keep from being relatched when the lever is released. I'm thinking that the hood springs are fatigued enough that they no longer raise the lid when the lever is pulled. They hold the hood open okay, although they could be stronger.

My solution was to add a very light spring with just enough oomph to lift the hood a half-inch or so when the hood lever is pulled. There's no unnecessary strain on the hood and now the hood opens with no issue.

That works too. Or you can just adjust the latch

I tried to adjust the latch, but it was simply a matter of the hood not moving up when the latch released. If you lifted up on the hood while someone held the hood opening lever open, the hood would come up with no issues. When closed the hood was flush with the fenders and fit properly, but there simply wasn't enough oomph to raise the hood far enough to keep from being relatched when the hood lever was released.

I tried moving the latch, sideways and up and down, and it accomplished nothing except in it's uppermost position allowed the hood to sit slightly above the fender line. Not good.

When the hood lever is pulled, the latch releases and the hood should rise a half-inch or so. My hood latch releases, but the hood will not rise unless it is moved by an exterior force.

Wink New hood lock-problem solved

I adjusted my old one enough to work then installed a NOS hood lock on the drivers side. Pops up better now.
