ignition cylinder problem
This morning my key would only go to position I. After messing with steering column tilt, forcing the key, shifter ****, brakes, I think pounding on the ignition switch area jiggle something loose so I was able to start the car and go to work. I searched the site and after reading a few pages I'm not completely clear what to do next.
I can spray some lube into the cylinder and may fix it for a while (maybe) and buy some time for a new switch.
I can buy a new ignition switch and fix it long term, but I'm not clear on matching the immobilizer. The antenna has been replaced once by the previous owner. If I buy new switch from FCP for example, would I get a new key with it and have to get it matched to the immobilizer? Or I order from dealer already matched to VIN? At this point I'm going after the quickest/cheapest solution since the next step would be sell the car while it's still running decently. It's got over 200k miles.
I also had a related problem few months ago where sometimes the key would not even go past the OFF position (ie, doesn't know key is in) or sometimes with the key out the car still thinks key is in (dash lights and chimes active). THat hasn't happened again after that one day.
