Default new C70: rattling roof

I have an 06 plate C70 with folding hard top. for the last 4 months there is a tapping sound from the roof behind the drivers head. present intermittently but for 50% of the time and very annoying. the car is under warranty and my dealer says that many UK models have this problem and that Volvo themselves don't know what the cause is. They have so far been unable to get rid of the noise. They currently have the car but say that when they manage to get rid of the noise from this location it is replaced by a noise from elsewhere!
I would be very grateful for any feedback and ideas............

My 2007 C70 has been quiet so far, although my perception from hearing others talk on forums is that some cars have required some dealer adjustment of the various cables and linkages for the top mechanism.

One thing I would be suspicious of is whether the metal cables that draw the cloth headliner tight as the top is closing (basically the last stage of the top closing) are adjusted tight enough to prevent them from rattling around.

One other thing that I have observed with my car is that if I put the top up with the car on a non-trivial slant, then I have heard some rattles. But (knock on wood) it has been pretty quiet when the top is put up with the car on relatively level ground. (And my driveway is pretty slanted, so I am not saying that it needs to be perfectly flat.)

Picked up my '08 C-70 late October of '07. Really enjoying the ride and all the equipment on it. Over the past two months it has developed a rather bothersome rattle when the top is in the closed position. It doesn't matter whether the car is on flat ground or on an incline when closing the top. I have not had time to get into dealer and see what they have to say.

Has anyone else experienced this problem and gotten a satisfasctory answer or repair? I will be visiting dealer next week or so and respond through this post to answers from dealer.

Have a great day!

Well, here it is July, 2008 and I am still experiencing the rather bothersome rattle when the roof is in the closed position. The dealer attempted to resolve it last month to no avail. Said they repositioned the grommets in the roof, but one mile away from the dealer it has returned, with a vengance! Even worse than before.

It's back in the shop again, since last Friday, and they are still working on it. I am quite frustrated even though the dealer has great mechanics but just can't seem to get rid of the darn rattle.

Does anyone else have this problem or is it just me experiencing this problem? If you have had this problem and it has been resolved, please let me know what they did to eliminate it.
Thanks!

I've been driving a 2007 C70 and I have noticed a slight creaking at certain moments when there is a lot of stress and torsion on the frame (moving slowly through a large pothole or uneven gravel road, for example). This is very infrequent, but it does have me worried that perhaps the frame is not as stiff as it should be.

I have the same issue: Picked up my 08 C70 in May and as of now I have 650 miles, not much I know. However, I cannot stand using the car with the top up because of the rattle which seems to come from the driver side. In fact, it is very apparent going over certain bumps only at a slow speed but it does sound like the bottom is falling out! I didn't think it is the roof but I guess it is. I took it to service a month ago for the first time due to the fact I replaced a tire already because of a nail. I explained about the horrible rattling and they said to bring it in any time for a tech to go on a test drive. Well, since it's not warm here too long, I will bring it in when it's time for the roof to stay up. In the meantime, I only drive top down. Otherwise, I love the car but use my gas eating beast VW Touareg for top up days and shopping!

Finally took my C-70 in for the second time. Thney put a master mechanic on it and had the car for two days. The rattle which seemed to eminate from the right rear to the front left (over my head) was becoming terribly annoying, From what I can guess at, Volvo has put out a memo concerning this problem. I have had the car back now for five weeks and it has been absolutely rattle free! The first time they adjusted some rubber grommets and it want away for a day ot most. This time they did it right but I have no idea just what they did.

I was reading through here and saw this. for some of these problems there is a software up grade. the rams holding the roof tight slacken off. so try opening and closing the top to see if the noise goes away and it it does for a little while this is most likely the problem.
