should i replace the radio or does anyone know how to fix it it just keeps trying to load a cd and goes thru the motions but never loads-

 

I had the same problem with my 97 850. I put a changer in the glove box and it plugged right into the back of the head unit and works perfect. Now I have 6 cd changer instead of a single CD head unit.

The headunit is the radio itself.

Also the 3 disc magazines warp over time not allowing the C/D's to be slid out and installed in the radio.

if your cartridge is warped and stuck in the changer how do you remove it?

 

Is the slider stuck half way out?
If so make sure you have the radio code first.
Remove radio and unplug it. Wait a few minutes then plug it back in. Then it should reset then press Eject and it should comeout.

 

what it does is it pops out goes back in then gives an error code.....and it doesnt eject

 

HUMMM it should pop out to get the disc out of the player then eject.
I forget if there is a release like on the changers that you slide a credit card or something like that in on the bottom to release.

its been a while since ive addressed this problem...i emailed the website you suggested recently. I got a response that they could fix it for $175 dollars plus shipping. That seems a bit outrageous seeing I could buy a used head unit on eBay warrantied for $50 bucks more. Any other suggestions on how to manually pop the cartridge out on the sc901 so i can get it a replacement cartridge?

I agree, 175 is a bit high. There is a manual release on the bottom of the cartridgetray when inthe completely extended position. I would try turning the key off when it is in the out position, or disconnecting the fuse. Either way it is to keep it out so you can make the cartridge release. This though will not remove a disc in the player, but you may get lucky and it could be as easy as removing with small plyers. If you do have to disassemble the unit, it is not very hard and only requires a small phillips screwdriver and maybe some plyers depending on how much disassembly. Good Luck.
