Hi. Just bought my 2001 C70 cabrio. Seems in good shape, 93K miles. Just one alarming thing. On full lock either left or right it seems stiff and if forced gives a metallic crunch sound. Also the steering column seems to vibrate when going down a bumpy road. Maybe this is connected.

Any ideas where to start looking

 

The steering column is normal.

For the noise on the lower control arms there is plastic stops lube them up with Grease and see if the noise goes away.

 

i just bought my 2002 C70 coupe the other day and have the same problem. doesnt matter which way i turn the wheel but as soon as you turn it full either way it makes that crunching sound...its very annoying

 

Finally got some time to look at this. Jacked up, removed wheels, pressure washed everything and greased everything that moves (except brakes)

All is fine now, no more crunching

 

A tad of motorcycle chain lube on the spring seats does wonders.
