Strange ticking noise II - now I know what it is but what's the deal?
I took my C70 to a local specialist today about a ticking noise on the driver's side wheel when the car is in gear.
The specialist was so nice and he told me that it's to do with these later 70's having a new design on the CV joint/ driveshalf area, where at the two sides on a plate there are two nuts tightening the joint in place. One on the inside is done to 165Nm (I think) but the one of the outside is only to around 45Nm, hence it slips when moving off.
He told me there's no problem with it and it doesn't affect anything but just makes the noise.
I am thinking I can make sure the nuts are tighten etc to see if that's a short term solution to the noise (he also suggested that you could put a locking nut on it and that would solve the problem, but then if you need to work on the driveshaft, that's going to cause huge problems)
I took the wheel centre cap off earlier and saw what I think was the 45Nm nut he was talking about, and it seemed pretty tight, am i looking at the wrong place?
