Default Upper Mount Question

I noticed a sort of dull thud from the engine compartment area when I let off or step on the accelerator in my '01 C70 convert. I found that the bushing in my upper engine mount is loose and I can actually move the torque rod up and down at the engine mount end. It's nice and tight at the firewall. I imagine this is causing the thud. Should the rubber bushing be tight in the aluminum bracket or is it normal for it to be loose?

The square bushing has some play in it brand new.
