Default Volvo timing/no compression help?

I have an 02 c70 2.3 turbo. My wife blew the head gasket. My dad is a mechanic so we resurfaced the head, installed a new gaskets but we notice one piston had a crack in it, but we put it all back together anyway. We bought the timing tool and set the timing, I think we did it right. Cylinder 2 and 3 don't have compression and cylinder 1 has 35 the rest are where they should be. Any suggestions? We were thinking a 2.4 engine swap but we don't know if it will work with the computer does anyone know? My exhaust cam has play in it I don't know if its suppose to my dad works at Carmax and no one has ever done this timing and all the things he found on some intranet site for mechanics the instructions seem confusing. Does anyone have specific instructions for the timing and or if they know a 2.4 will work with the 2.3 computer please any help would be greatly appreciated.

You put it back together with a cracked piston? A cylinder leakage test needs to be done.

Chances are, he didn't get the VVT set right (if he has one) and when it was started for the first time the timing was off and busted some of the valves. That VVT is tricky but if he doesn't understand some instructions, that's time to asked 100 questions. Most guys here and on www.MatthewsVolvoSite.com will answer questions no problem.

Not sure why he would put the motor back together with a cracked piston. That makes no sense. To much work and being a mechanic he should have know that would not work. Find another mechanic "quick".

As for the motor swap, no that won't work. Again, find another mechanic.
