Default Timing Belt Slip, Low Compression

Ok, let me start. Long time forum reader, first time poster. This forum has helped me dozens of times!

Car-1999 S70, Coil on plug ignition, non-turbo, non-VVT, 247k miles

Went to start it one morning, engine turned over a couple of times, I released the key, but the engine hadn't started. Turned over again, engine turned, but no compression. The timing belt tensioner failed (mechanical tensionser), and the belt had slipped. The engine was never started though.

So, I install new tensioner, line up timing belt marks. Car runs like crud. Try again, I get the marks lined up better and she runs ok, but definitely rough, like it's missing. Anything over 1800 RPMs is smooth as silk, just like the old days. Once warmed up a lot smoother, even below 1800 RPMs, pretty smooth but still off.

Throwing code P0301 (misfire one). Checked coil, checked injectors, all good. Drove for about a week, and the engine started to smooth out a lot more mid week, to where it's really not THAT noticeable. Basically, unburnt fuel smell (exhaust) upon start up but after driving, smell goes away, and only a slight sulfur smell is in the exhaust, no more than usual.

I checked my compression on all cylinders with a cold engine. Cylinders 2-5 are compressing like champs (190-210 psi) but cylinder one is only at 90 psi. It's got a ticking sound, that sounds just like a noisy lifter or valve when your oil is low. That sound becomes quieter when warmed, but still noticeable and still not running like she should.

And another thing, there is an ever so slight "thumping" sound in the exhaust when the car is running at it's worst at start up.

All this detail is good, right? haha So, what's the verdict? I'm a bit lost right now, not sure what to think.

Bent valve at #1. Any slip of the belt on these cars and it's off with the head they go. I'm surprised you only bent 1.
