I know on certain motorcycles, "harmonics" are present at specific mph's where the operator will experience a vibration.

Has anyone experienced this in a C40 between 65-70mph?

 

if there's a vibration at speed, it means something is out of balance, same as with any car or motorcycle. Modern cars have bushings and lots of sound deadening which effectively eliminate any harmonic resonances. For a new car, its likely to be wheels/tires, but possibly an axle or the brakes. First thing I'd do is a front to rear tire rotation to see if that changes anything.

 

yes. My c40 is a week old. Happy to hear others are experiencing this but worried it's not fixable.

 

I’m on a road trip right now and experiencing slight vibration over 70 MPH or 110 KM per hr. I will be checking with my dealer. Car is 2 weeks old.

 

My Volvo service manager says he has other customers with the same issue. He said Volvo is also aware and working to fix the problem. Volvo has informed service not to try replacing anything until they determine the cause and have a solution. He said he's been at Volvo for 30+ years and he's confident they will make this right. Let's hope so. What to do if they don't??

He said he'd call once he knows more, and if I hadn't heard from him in a month (that would be around June 15, 2023), to call him. I love this car, but I can't tolerate this issue. But what are our options if they can't fix? Since it's not a safety concern, I'm worried Volvo's response will take a while. Volvo may claim it's just a characteristic of this particular car. Then what? My girlfriend has a '22 XC40 Recharge, and it's perfectly smooth; no vibration at any speed and the acceleration is smooth. Her car was the reason I wanted the C40.

 

I suggest putting some pressure on Volvo corporate by contacting their customer service. Say that you understand that they're working on it, but the issue is unacceptable in a new vehicle and there is no ETA for a fix. Say that you'd like to trade for another vehicle that doesn't have this issue. They won't bite on that, but they may offer you some compensation in the interim. You could also ask your dealer to just trade out to a vehicle that doesn't have the issue since Volvo has no idea what is causing it or when it will be fixed. If you're kind to them but also are firm that this is not acceptable in a new car you will at least help to ensure that pressure is maintained.
