XC60 Advice buying 2023 XC60 Recharge
Hi, I am considering purchasing a 2023 XC60 recharge. I love the acceleration, the looks, the drive.
But, I'm now very scared of the quality and design issues that I see here. I want a vehicle that I can drive 10 years with few issues.
Does anybody here have some time with their vehicle that is trouble free?
Thanks

I’m just reaching the end of my first year with my 2022 XC60 T8. I’m very happy with it. My daily round trip to work is about 20 miles so I’m charging at home every couple of days on a regular 120volt outlet. I don’t use the engine much of the time.
I’ve also driven it Chicago to DC and Milwaukee a couple of times, which obviously requires gas and the performance has been excellent. The car is very comfortable on long trips and easy to live with for daily activities.
I was skeptical about the Android infotainment system, but it has proven to be very good. A couple of over the air updates in the past year have made it even better. Apple Car Play is available but I don’t use it. The integrated apps from the Google Play store fulfill all my needs.
So, in my opinion, you shouldn’t base your purchase solely on the conversations you see here. It’s an enthusiast and troubleshooting forum which focuses on rare problems and things Volvo could do better. In that way, it’s comparable to the tech forums I use. We’re always pushing for upgrades and features from Apple, Microsoft, et al. But we still use and enjoy those products. There are plenty of happy customers who don’t post about their satisfaction.
best of luck in your decision. Happy to answer any specific questions you might have.

I agree that you should exercise caution when using forum comments to help inform purchase decisions because most happy owners don't visit here and post questions.
However, in the case of newer Volvos there are some reliability and software issues worth considering. I suggest checking out the Consumer Reports coverage. For the 2023 XC60, they rate predicted reliability 2 out of 5. CR is not a perfect source of data either, but at least they've compiled broad user feedback in coming up with this.
I personally believe that Volvo currently has the best PHEV drivetrain available. A fantastic combination of power, efficiency, and range for the money. But there are also lots of problems and you'd need to go in with your eyes open.
I drive a 2022 S60 Recharge and I like the design and engineering. The quality, execution, and parts availability are less exciting. It is great to drive though!
Good luck with your decision.

I am in the process of dealing a ‘09 XC90 for a’22 XC60 plug-in and am concerned about the software problems they have had in the past. Am I rolling the dice on this car or has the issue been resolved? Anyone like to advise?
We just passed one year with our 2022 XC60 Recharge ER. We’re retired so most of the time it’s electric driving around town but we’ve also taken 3 road trips, each around 1,500 - 2,000 miles. We have around 10,000 miles total. We had a rocky start with the car (software issues, that included it not starting, locking, etc.) and I was beyond irritated with the car and Volvo in general. Our service advisor was very nice and helpful but it was obvious they were overwhelmed with lots of problems. I don’t know the extent of that today. However since then the car has performed flawlessly. I have owned a lot of nice cars. The car drives beautifully, looks great, and is fast as all get out (I just got a radar detector to be safe). I do have concerns about its reliability, but they’re no doubt due to the first months of ownership. Would I spend $70,000 to get it again (we did get the $7500 tax credit). Probably not. We got it at around the height of the microchip shortage and it was difficult to find anything to buy. There’s some technology I don’t like. I also don’t like the gas mileage and having to use premium. Obviously I knew that going in, but it still bugs me. I do love driving the electric, and our road trips on gas have been very smooth. If we didn’t periodically take road trips, I’m now all in favor of pure electric. Bottom line though is it’s my guess (and just a guess), most owners are happy with the car and don’t write into forums to say that. I never wrote into any forums until I got this car and early on wanted to vent or had questions about various aspects of the car. Good luck.

I also agree you will mostly hear complaints on a Forum.
I’ve bought a XC 60 Polestar last October and I’m very satisfied with it.
About the infotainment, any issues you have (that are not frequent) are solved with a quick reset.
I found on a forum some ways to reset only the GPS or the mais system.
You just need to click and hold for a few seconds and you are good to go. And again, this is not a frequent issue.

Thanks for the information. I’m hoping I can make a deal for it this weekend. The salesman actually called the former owner and he assured him that he had no issues with the software. He said that the only problem was as a 74 year old he had a hard time figuring out the screen so he just used the Google voice commands to operate most tasks.
I bought my 2023 XC60 T 8 recharge about 9 months ago and I haven’t had any problems with it. Love the way it drives, handles corners and the acceleration is great. Got to watch my speed. Been on several long road trips and the car ran beautifully. Put the battery on hold to use when going through small towns. We owned two previous Volvo cars, an XC40 R and an XC60 (2021). Both have been very good cars in my opinion.
Thanks

On to the driving experience. AWESOME! Handles like a dream, agile and tight (very little lean) on turns. Acceleration is unbelievable as I'm sure you've read. It's such a great feeling to just know that I can take any space I need out on the road without having to ask permission and wait for a big gap. I'm secretly hoping to race somebody on the green, which would probably get a good laugh as I'm no spring chicken and a female at that. Could I beat a Tesla? A motorcycle? Hmmm.....
When I keep my trips to within 20 minutes, I can get there and back home without using any gas. Unfortunately, that's not the majority of my driving. But I'm still enjoying an average MPG of about 65-70, and have to fill up (with premium $$$) only about every 3 weeks. We've taken it on 2 long road trips and get about 34 mpg then. I leave the car in Hybrid mode all the time and let it figure out how best to balance the electric range with gas usage.
I'm sure the drive train and everything mechanical about the car will be good over the long haul. I did get an extended warranty to cover me until 100k miles. Hoping to keep her for at least that long. Good luck! I hope you love it as much as I do.
