Default black screen

I have an 2024 XC 60 charge and have about 500 miles on it. Yesterday, I pulled into a business, turned off the car, went when inside. I came out five minutes later and restarted the car. The center display screen was totally black, nothing came up. I turned off the car and then turned the car on again and still a black center screen.

Then I turned off the car, got out of the car, closed the door and locked it. I then got back in and started it again and still a black screen. I was able to drive home but the screen remained black the entire time. The screen directly in front of me that shows miles per hour etc. was normal. When I got home I plugged the car in as the battery was completely discharged and I was running on power mode, I think, because I couldn't see for sure. After it was plugged in for about five minutes, I went back to the car, key opened and then unplugged. I got in and started the car. The screen came up just like it should.

These are the details and I hope it's clear as to what was going on. what might be the cause? Has anyone experienced this?
PS,
strangely enough this also happened to my 2021 Volvo XC 60 recharge. They never could find a code and it only did it two times. At the time I thought it might be a result of the system recognizing that a recent update had been done at the dealership, which was the case.

Just want to see if anyone has had their center display screen go black so nothing can be read and yet the car continues to drive and perform as needed. Unless you can control it by your voice there was no way to make changes. It only happened once.

Default Restart center display

Yes, this happened with my 2022 XC60. I fixed it by "restarting the center display:" https://www.volvocars.com/en-sa/supp...a801512c8f5561

yes that is what I was able to do after plugging in for 10 minutes. Did you ask the dealer and if so what did they saw was the cause?

I did not ask the dealer; the problem has not recurred. I did not need to plug in for 10 minutes. Did you follow the instructions on the link I sent: "To restart the centre display, press and hold the Home button below the display for 20 seconds. The screen will first go into cleaning mode. Continue to hold the button until the display turns off and then restarts showing the Volvo logo. The procedure is shown in this video..."

Thank you for the information on how to restart the screen. Yes I'm familiar with that but do not want do that until I get an answer for the black screen from the dealer.or some one else on this forum. I want to know cause and then resolution, possibly restart on screen.

If it happens again I want to make sure that there possibly could be a code that is saved so the dealer can identify at the dealership. I will keep an eye on it but if I need I will reset it. Thank you

These cars are basically 4 wheels with an engine and a bazillion computers. Sometimes computers just need to be restarted. I call it 'burping' the computer. And yes, I've received the black screen 'at least once', and not only on this car but my Ford Mach e Mustang, and my previous '21 XC60 T8. Fortunately, the issue cleared itself. I don't remember if I restarted the car or held the home screen until the computer re-started itself. If everything is working fine now, it probably is OK.
What I like the most on my new one is the 'Seat Massagers'. Darn those things are nice on a trip :-)

I agree with "Cruiter" but if you really want to know the cause, you should drive directly to the dealer the next time it happens. Even then, I think they will just shrug their shoulders and reboot the screen. I've worked with computers professionally for 43 years; sometimes it is hopeless to try to determine the cause of problems and usually any error messages or "codes" are not accurate or helpful. Unless you have a lot of extra time on your hands it's best to just reboot.

My centre screen has played up for 18 months or so. It will fairly often lose GPS signal in built up cities, but can be anywhere anytime randomly (even parking it at work) and can take 2 bloody days to reset, meaning i have to use my phone's google maps (which funnily enough does not lose signal when the car does!
I came out to the car to drive home for lunch yesterday and Black centre screen. Still Black 36 hours later, despite locking the car overnight and doing the Home button reset a couple of times as well as the defroster reboot all to no effect.
Despite what Jwyoung above says about computers, it is not good enough in a luxury car. If the satnav stops working and takes a couple of days to sort itself out and the dealer doesnt know what the cause is then it is not fit for purpose. And with a Black screen there is NO acces to Anything.
I will be taking it back (again) next week and ask them to replace it with something else. Being putting up with this since new in 2022.
a Very unhappy volvo xc60 recharge owner.
