XC60 fuel trims - recharge
Recently the engine light came on my 2021 XC 60 recharge. I took it into the dealership and they said that the fuel trim settings were not correct. They said the reason for this is that the ethanol was in excess of 10% in the fuel tank. I had purchased the gas that was in the tank the day before from Cosco and use their 93 octane with ethanol. I've been doing this pretty much ever since I bought the car in January 2021.
I turned in a possible claim about excess ethanol that they were distributing. They confirmed all of their loads prior to me pumping the gas was not in excess of 10% ethanol..
In order to fix the fuel trim problem they had to drain the gas tank and reset the fuel trim settings. Of course this is not under warranty. I'm not concerned about the money I spent to have them reset. The dealership told me that I should not use gas with ethanol yet the XC 60 manual that came with the car says I can use up to 10% ethanol.
Here's the kicker. When traveling out of Iowa, which is where I'm located, sometimes it is hard to find any fuel without ethanol. Fortunately we have Kwik Star in my home town and they have 91 without ethanol. They call it their RV fuel.. My concern is how to NOT use ethanol. I think the dealer does not know what to say. My gues is that the fuel trims were not set correctly from the factory and over time got to point where they caused the engine light to come on. I drove the car for a few days, with their OK, with the engine light on. Engine ran fine, no rough idle etc.
I have attached the email from COSTCO. If you have had to have fuel trims reset please post here. I am curious.
