Default Miles to Empty and Tire Pressure

I’m seeing two items on my month old 2022 XC60 Recharge T8 extended range I’ve never had in any of the many cars I’ve owned with similar features. I’m wondering if I’m missing something. I’ve complained in earlier posts about Volvo not providing a written owners manual which might have the info (I’m 71 so I might just be old fashioned). I’m not finding answers in the online manual.

1. Miles to Empty. I get this in multiples of 10 instead of consecutive mileage numbers. Never seen that before. I don’t believe it’s anything I can change but to me it’s not the most helpful “calculation”. Don’t know if this is how Volvo’s been doing it for years as this is our first one. Maybe not the biggest deal and I know they’re never completely precise as it’s based on a number of factors. I try not to cut it too close but there are areas of the country where the difference between 11 and 20 miles left might matter. Does anyone know if the system rounds down or up so, for example, if you have 14 miles to empty it shows 10 vs 20? And by comparison if you have 16 miles left does it still shows 20? That wouldn’t be great telling you that there’s more than there is. And if at 19 does it automatically drop to showing 10 left, that’s not too hot either.

2. TPMS. I’m used to TPMS showing individual tire pressures for each tire versus a somewhat uninformative green check mark. I haven’t tried to download the tire pressure numbers yet shown on the screen but wonder if all that does is still show a green check if your within the “right” range of what you put in. I like having my TPMS showing me actual pressure before it gets too low. I look at that frequently while driving on road trips so I don’t get surprised. And I do check them manually sometimes when starting the day, but being able to see actual numbers versus a generic green check would be nice. Again I don’t know if that’s how Volvo has always done it. Have they?

I just don’t understand why Volvo wouldn’t provide more specific information systems.

Appreciate any insights.

Mine is a '21 vintage w/o the extended range. After a full charge, mine shows either 20 or 21 miles available and depending on my route, the actual miles may vary slightly. Especially in the winter when everything is much colder, you can/should expect less. I don't fret over the difference shown to be available as it's just a guide anyway.

RE: TPMS, I've had cars in the past also that showed individual wheel pressure and naturally it's preferable. But it's also more expensive to offer as well as down the road if/when you have to replace valve stems, there will be a price difference. Volvo offers only the less expensive version that counts the difference in wheel revolutions that will let you know if over the same distance, one wheel turns more or less revolutions.

Did this help? There can be a preference, however it shouldn't be a sale killer.

Thanks. My electric only range does show what’s left mile by mile and I agree it’s just a guide. Not to be relied upon exactly. It’s my miles to empty in gas that show only in multiples of 10. I’ve just never seen that before in any vehicle I’ve owned which if they have a miles to empty feature has always shown how much you have left mile by mile (also not to be totally relied on of course). Just a weird cost savings if that’s what it is. And I’d still like to know how they calculate when to drop the gas estimate by 10. They’re obviously rounding up or down in some fashion. It’d be nice to know which for those times it might matter or to get a little more peace of mind if you’re in the boonies where you might not know where the next station is.
As far as the TPMS goes thanks for the explanation. I’ve had cars that alert you when there’s a problem of course without showing any tire pressures or the specific tire in question. Just never saw one that shows all 4 tires individually on the computer screen without showing specific pressures per tire. Certainly not a deal breaker but another odd cost savings to me in an expensive car. It’s our first Volvo. It’s an impressive automobile if it doesn’t end up in the shop again which it did within one month of our purchase this past May.
