Default Public Charging Stations - What's Your Experience?

How many of us use them and what are your experiences?

Mostly, we use EVgo, Electrify America and Charge Point, plus a non-networked one close to my office.

The Electrify America station at the Target off of Alicia Parkway is the best so far with few breakdowns and the newest units.

Beyond that one, the results are quite mixed and often disappointing, with some chargers WAY on the other end of parking lots OR up front and hard to access or blocked by fossil cars. A lot of chargers don't work and it's a pain almost always having to back-in. I wish the charge port was on the front like the PHEV Volvos. Why isn't it?

I'm glad we normally can charge at home as there needs to be more working DCFC stations. At least our stations don't usually have queuing lines like Tesla SC's around here. If they open them up to other cars like has been hinted, we probably still wouldn't use them outside of long road trips as they are way too busy.

Are Public Charging stations supposed to charge sales tax? After 15 minutes of toil with customer service to try and get the local one at Target to work, I noticed this on my charging session. I don't remember seeing this before, but maybe I wasn't paying attention. The actual cost, with tax was over 46c per kWh in this case:

Yowzzer, that's a bunch of nickels . As mine is a PHEV, I can charge while driving (if needed) for much less gas than would cost that much. I do find many malls offer free charging to induce coming there to shop and I have a level II at home. The NAV will show where the chargers are at the mall's.

I have not yet received delivery of my C40 Recharge but have begun looking at the charge station options in my target area of Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. Seems the best networks for DC fast charging stations are EVgo and Electrify America. Their stations typically have CCS plugs and their apps allow me to check cost, availability, and determine max charge time. I have seen wide variations in pricing. The stations located at the service plazas along the interstates to be the most expensive. We also have a supermarket chain called Hannaford’s which frequently have high speed charge stations to encourage shopping. At this point in my analysis, the ABRP app (A Better Route Planner) seems to be a good option for locating high speed charging stations for road trips since you can specify the networks you prefer to use. I have a lot to learn, but it should be interesting!
