Is ~30MPG okay on an S40 1.8SE auto?
Hello everyone,
I've just joined the forum to ask a quick question, I hope someone can help.
I bought a 2004 Volvo S40SE automatic a few weeks ago and I've been keeping an eye on the average MPG displayfrom the Info Centre.
When I got the car, the average MPG display was around 36 which I thought sounded about right for a 1.8 auto but I've reset it a couple of times since then and the most it's ever displayed is around 30MPG. I don't push the car too hard and I reckon I do about 60-70% town driving and 30-40% motorway (but I do tend to have the aircon on most of the time at the moment).
Does around 30MPG sound about right for the 1.8SE? I'd read S40 reviews on a few websites before I bought the car and I thought the official figureswere nearer 35MPG for this engine so do I have a problem?
Cheers!

for the third time I will try to reply, damn error messages.....I have an 04 LSE..which I'm guessing is your model as well. I get about 29 in the city, but i race to every red light! On the highway i get about 38. I can get 400 miles on a tank full. Hope this helps
