'00-'04 S40 Fuel Pressure Regulator replacement guide
Hi, I replaced my FPR and the car worked great yesterday. This morning I went to start it and it turns over but will not run continually without my foot on the gas. There is a 20 degree colder temperature this morning. could there be a vapor lock if the system was not repressurized? I replaced the whole assembly with a new Volvo part. Has anyone else had this issue?

Check the Idle Air Control motor and the small S shaped hose between the front intercooler and the throttle body. Unfortunately I've replaced all 3 things, IAC motor, FPR, and hose. Not at the same time though.
In this pic you can see the S shaped hose (where it starts in the red box). It connects to the throttle body area on the other end. You can also see the Idle Air Control motor.

My symptoms were a long cranking time before it would start and run. But if you held the throttle plate open a bit it would start right up but not idle immediately. So my first reaction was to replace the Idle Air Control motor which did not fix it. Next I read this very forum and discovered the FPR. After replacing that it started and ran fine.
Years later I was getting a very strange idle behavior and found the S shaped hose cracked in two. It was different than the long cranking time associated with a bad FPR.

It appears your photos are down and I cannot view the photos. Can you check to see that they are uploaded correctly? This is the only legit guide I found online after much searching, but cannot see the photos. Would be very helpful!!
If you order one of these Bosch units for VW, let us know if it fits. I recall looking at them and think they are different dimensions from the Weber unit on the Volvo. The price we have to pay for our units is crazy but it I guess the volume is lower.
What is the S-Shaped part called just beneath the FPR assembly that connects directly to the FPR? Should that be replaced too? It seems odd not to just replace that part as well, but the FPR I bought did not come with it (circled).

It's a vacuum hose. If the black rubber remains in good condition, reuse it. You can but it separately if you need it.

I did the FPR on my 00 S40 this past summer. The only CEL code was for a generic misfire. The main symptom was excessive cranking at start up. To replace requires two different size torx bits along with a flat blade and needle nose pliers to separate the fuel line connector and to slide off the vacuum line. Not very much fuel will leak out but have a clean up rag. The whole job is about 15 minutes.
