Default '00 S40 - Can bad coolant temp sensor actually prevent starting?

Hi all,

You can browse my longer more detailed post on my issue here:
https://volvoforums.com/forum/volvo-...g-steps-71242/

But I was wondering if a faulty coolant temp sensor could actually prevent the car from starting? I ask this because I noticed when I attempted to start the car cold again this morning to no avail, the fans kick right on as soon as I turn the key off. The started turned maybe 4-5 times. After the fan shutoff I just turned the key on and off, no starter attempt, and the fan went right back on.

Seems strange, and I have been having odd temperature issues.

I have heard of a faulty MAF causing the fans to run when they should not. No clue why the MAF would cause this.

Default Any solution yet?

Im having similar problems with erratic hard starting and fan coming on when cold. Did you replace the coolent sensor and did it solve your problem?
