00 S40 VVT Gear Replacement Setting
Hello Everyone -
I've done heads and T belts on Volvo's in the past and am doing a a complete timing belt kit, pump, cam seals, and VVT gear on an 00 S40 due to the cam gear leaking oil excessively. I've have everything torn down and the gear off with all the marks locked at tdc with the Volvo cam tool kit. What I am wondering is does the internal portion inside the gear need to be set like it does on the 5 cyl motors? Or do you just install the gear just by using the timing mark near the gear teeth. The internal position of the new gear I have is clocked differently than the one I pulled from the car.
TIA - JP

If this helps anyone in the future I got the answer from a Volvo tech. He said the S40 VVT gear does not have a degree setting like the 5 Cyl VVT gears do. You simply bolt it on and match up the TDC marks on the gear teeth and upper plastic cam cover.
