'01 Blower HOT air all the time
Hi there,
My climate control system on my 2001 S40 is blowing hot air no matter the temperature setting. It does not matter if the AC is on or off, the heat coming through is only (very) HOT. It vents hot too when the fan is at '0' at highways speeds. I am guessing (hoping) it's just a temp sensor or thermostat. Any ideas? Hoping this is not an expensive fix.
Thanks very much!

You may need a heater damper motor. Does your recirc. and AC switch lights blink for 20 secs when you start the car? If so, there's a code stored on your computer that'll tell you the prob. I just fixed mine with a similar problem.
I've had a similar problem with my car for a couple of years now. When the car is running I can't change temperature. It is either all hot or all cold. I have to stop and turn off the car before it will reset to the opposite temp. It's only a pain in the spring and summer when temperatures can be cold one day and warm the next. The dealer said it was likely a software upgrade required - $75 for the software + 1/2 hr labor to install. I've just put up with it but would sure like to find a fix without paying the dealer for software.
Hi All - I just went to the dealer and they have diagnosed it also as the damper motor (part# 30872353). The part was not in stock so I have to wait until next week to see if it fixes the problem. They read codes CCM-0081 and CCM-0012 (I have no flashing lights on the climate system though when I start the car). Will keep you posted.
Hi again - Indeed it was the damper motor (which is also a temp sensor apparently). It seems that the person who installed my ipod adapter damaged the motor
grumble. But all is well now.
Thanks all

actually my volvo s40 did this twice in the 9 years I've had it. I found a great article on volvospeed that showed its a 99 cent transistor inside the blower motor. After soldering new transistor in place works perfectly.
Do you have a link?
How-To: Fix HVAC Fan That Runs All The Time - 30 Forty 50
this shows how to replace the transistor and where its located. If you take the transistor out you can see the resistor held by to bolts. This is whats gone bad and can replaced for under 5 bucks if you can solder good. I got one from radio shack. Its a 2N3055 NPN Transistor.
