ok so my cars been over heating for some reason today... i look at the radiator hose and its cracked...... i drive down to my local volvo dealer and buy a new radiator hose.. replace it..... i drive around to see if its fixed anything but nope still over heating........ i go buy a new termostat at advanced auto parts and replace it....after that i drive it around and is still over heating.....

engine starts cold then warms up to the middle.... then when i start driving it goes up and the fan turns on????... what else could it be ... im taking it to a mech. so they can replace my coolant temp. sensor( could i just do this my self?)

ahhh and after i pump gas and only after i pump gas the engine doesnt start on its first try but always turns over on its 2nd try ??? i dont want to go to the volvo place and pay them around 100 just to look at my car.

Is it really overheating or does teh guage just say it is?

 

it gets pretty hot......
about to the 1st red line sometimes .....
the temperature goes up when im stopped and cools down when im moving......
the fan turns on when the gauge is 3/4 of the way up......


o and im not 100% sure about if its really over heating im just reading the gauge( i did put my hand near the engine and it was pretty hot) ....... my gas gauge is broken also its stuck on empty and the comp says its empty too

 

Do you ever hear coolant bubbling in the tank?
How many times has it run hot?

 

this is the 2nd time actually the first time was because my radiator hose was faulty but i fixed that .....
im thinking its the coolant temp sensor???? but i have no idea where thats located under the hood???
is it an easy job to replace the sensor my self???

 

I believe the sensor is right below the thermostat you replaced.

Have you checked the radiator to make sure you don't have something blocking air flow?

 

no i have not and i just found out where the sensor was to lol.... can some one type some directions to do it myself
all i know is that i unscrew the 2 bolts from the housing and take out my termostat

 

Then the sensor is just below on the right side after you have the lid off. You use a 19MM wrench you remove it. The wire below coming out of by the thermostat is the sensor. It will be a little harder on your car because this engine has the intake off aleady.
