so far i have checked the battery, plugs, and starter those were all fine. I have now replaced the fuel pump and pressure regulator. Still takes 5-10 secs to turn over....

anything else im missing?

 

I have an '01 S40 that was having the "Hard Start" problem. I replaced the fuel pressure regulator, but that did not fix the problem. Took it to the dealer after the car started stalling. They replaced the idle air controller and it fixed both probelms (hard starting and stalling). The idle air control valvle is on the front of the engine and is very easy to replace. just remove 2 10mm bolts and unplug the wirinig harness. You might want to try replacing it to see if it helps.
