07 s40 a/c problems
Let me first off say I'm in no way shape or form mechanically minded. My wife drives am 07 s40 2.4 and she came home the one day and said the a/c was not working properly. I took it to the local dealer for a quote and was surprised to see the figures. They said it was more than likely that the entire climate unit had to be replaced at a cost of over $3000 labour included
. They also said it might be just be the motor at a cost of over $1300. I am in need of some advice as it seems Im being taaken advantage of

Ok, you need to help us help you. Tell us how the A/C is not working properly. For instance, there is a known issue with the 2004.5 and up models. On very hot days with the A/C working and cold air blowing you suddenly get warm air that lasts for several minutes then the A/C starts blowing cold again. This cold/hot cycle continues as long as the car is driven. After the car is off for a time it works correctly until it gets very hot again and begins the cold air/hot air cycle. This is the classic "reshimming" problem to the A/C compressor clutch. It literally takes less than an hour to fix and costs nothing as long as you have the tools. The problem is the compressor clutch and the 3 shims installed from the factory. You remove the clutch and remove 1 small shim then put it back together. Done.
There are some other issues like the damper door arm failing. And sometimes the climate control module packs it up.
Now tell us exactly what the A/C is doing? (or not doing...)
