08 S40 - normal shifting?
I've had my new 2008 S40 2.4i for a year and a half and have only 7K miles on it. The only issue I've had consistently now is the rough shifting. Took it in for its one-year service and told dealership about the issue, especially after I had an 09 S40 loaner and it shifted smooth as silk. The dealership said nothing's wrong, cars feel different from year to year and suggested I try driving the car more roughly. This seemed to help a bit, however, the shifting (especially from 2nd to 3rd) is still quite pronounced. Almost seems the car jumps back a bit and is slightly hesitant. Weather, length of drive seem to make little difference. Is this just the car's normal shifting that I have to accept?
My '05 T5 shifts very smooth. There may be an adaptation procedure that would help. They usually to this after a transmission software reload. The other thing that helped my '02 S40 was a transmission flush and fill.

I have to agree with Ella. I have an '08 S40 2.4i and the shifting is a bit jerky.. Not terribly so as I haven't raised it with the dealer. It's not as noticeable if I floor the gas. I just hope it doesn't cause any undue wear and tear on the transmission.
So AutoNaut, you feel that it is a software issue?

Not necessarily. My '02 S40 was shifting odd and they found a software update that helped a lot. After a while it started shifting odd again and I had service flush the tranny fluid and it was good again.
