Default 1.9t s40 no start nitemare.

What's up this is my first forum, and its a bit of a story.I'll skip the rebuild and go right to what's pertinent...basically I finished up on a top and bottom rebuild this week and went to crank it up.I got it to catch and it ran a bit...rough stalled three times.checked time...off three teeth or so on intake and a couple off on exhaust.OK so I reset time rotated crank twice..everything lined up dead on,cranked it up and it blew brake boost line off several times (as it did when I originally finished rebuild and was chasing a cam timing issue)and continued its no start condition.(point of rebuild in first place).OK....so,first thing is- are my cams 360 off?...second ,a forum said intake cam rear slot orientation is big side of half circle made by slot down.then it says exhaust cam big side up.so are my cams set right??? If anyone knows that's be very very helpful...thanks!

Did you remove the CVVT gear when you removed the cams? If so, did you use the cam holder tool to orient the CVVT gear properly?

You might want to check compression just in case. This is an interference engine.

OK.so here's the next point in testing.compression test results in chronological order.60 60 60 70.that's that.now...I found out my vvt sprocket is jammed up with only a half tooth of play.I was told they have 3 or 4 teeth of play so there's that. Now the million dollar question is if the vvt sprocket is a:dire fly connected to low compression...and b:is the backwards air compression connected to this.remember this important fact...I got the engine to fire up three times but it was running ****ty and stalled each time....this happened at same time I realized I jumped time a few teeth on cams during cranking and as I started.and no I never ever removed the vvt sprocket at any point

As I recall, the VVT on this particular engine only rotates every so slightly when pressure is exerted. I've seen a few videos online where the vvt rotates a fair amount more but that's different setup.

Wow, sounds like you are into a bit of a frustrating job, there. Back to one of the original questions from Hudini though: Did you lock the cams and crank using the Volvo tool? If not, that might be my next step.

Timing is dead on.I am looking for specifics though on cam slots...I mean the air blowing backward should indicate the cams are 360 off .do you agree? The tech in a forum wrote: intake cam big half circle down exhaust cam opposite. This is the info I am actually seeking

so basically in the end where I'm at is 60 60 60 70 in compression ,air blowing backwards blowing brake booster line off intake, no start, timing dead on based on my info.

But remember it caught and ran three times prior to this but stalled all three and ran rough.....so there was compression etc.

I believe above is correct. I've just looked at the pictures that I took when I did the job and have taken a look at the cam locking tool. If you are on the drivers side of left-hand-side drive car (i.e. North American car) and you are looking at the rear of the cams, the left one has the larger half of the circle on the bottom and the right cam is the opposite (larger half upwards).
