Default 1.9t....timing

my engine blew the head gasket, i know my way around a shop yet this is my first volvo. i need to do cam timing, ive got cyl 1 at tdc, the confusing part is the cam gear was removed, and theres no marks showing where to place them, anyone kno how to properly place the cams and ensure proper timing. this thing has fought me every step, dying to finish the damn project.

If the pulley went like it is supposed to(VVT pulley) then it should be locked. There should be a little notch on the pulley itself. Just like up the marks and go. But make sure you spin the motor by hand first.

Make a tool like in the post here https://volvoforums.com/forum/general-volvo-chat-5/cam-locking-tool-fabrication-38396/
Then that will help you line the front up.
