I have a 2000 volvo s40, build date: 7/99. My suspension is shot all the way around and its unbearable now. I decided since im getting rid of the car soon, rather than spending $600+ on factory struts and springs, i would buy a set of cheap coilovers from ebay. My only concern is fitment because my car is an early build date and other coilover sets ive seen on there say they only fit 10/99 and up s40s. I also read online that there was a suspension change from 1999 to 2000. Since these coilovers are being shipped all the way from Germany any help regarding whether they will fir or not is greatly appreciated. Or if anyone can suggest another set of cheap coilovers for my car(under $600) that i can have shipped to the US that would also be appreciated. In cases like this I like to use the golden rule.

Or you can sell the car in need of repairs so the new owner will know where they stand. If you do decide to cut the corner, let the new owner know so they can budget for the dreaded suspension failure.

 

Struts yes, but springs too? I would call FCP Euro or IPD and ask them about their struts for your early model 2000. I see them listed for $65 for rear struts and $105 for front struts each. Throw in new strut mounts and you can have parts designed for your car for less than $600.
