2000 Volvo S40 Fuel Pressure Regulator
Hi all....I own a 2000 Volvo S40 turbo 1.9 that I purchased 3 years ago and thanks to the research that I have done on this site determined that I need a new fuel pressure regulator. Yes, I my S40 has the hard starting and poor fuel economy. Of course there are big differences in the prices that I have seen for this part. One forum mentioned here that it would cost under $100.00 which is fine however in the real world the price is higher. I went to the garage that I have been going to with other vehicles that I own and they ordered the fuel pressure regulator for me. My mechanic called the Volvo dealership near where I live and was quoted somewhere around $80.00 by the parts dept when this part was ordered back in Nov 2008. (At the time this was the best price) Ok, so the part was delivered to my mechanic and the amount due was $230.00. Ouch! Fortunately he refused the item then call me to inform me of the price difference. I have noticed Volvo parts going up in price.(like everything else) I purchased a rear tail lamp socket in Feb 2008 and the cost was $19.95. The same socket for the right side was $57 and change which includes tax. Of course I don't plan on going to back to Volvo parts dept any time soon if I can avoid it. Anyway, who sells the fuel pressure regulater at a reasonable cost? It's a Volvo not a BMW. I shouldn't have to pay BMW prices on parts for a Volvo. I googled the internet but some of the prices are still too high compared to what I'm reading on this site. Thanks!
OK! You can buy the whole regulator, housing and hoses included for ~$200.
or you can buy only the regulator itself, no hoses, no housing for ~$80.
It's your choice.
For the housing and hoses buy from myswedishparts.com
For just the regulator go to google shopping and type in 2000 S40 fuel pressure regulator and sort by prices.
SOMEONE MAKE THIS A STICKY!

Hey guys I have a 2000 Volvo s40 it takes a while to start maybe 7 seconds when it has been sitting there, But if I just started it and came back 10 mins later it would start right up.
I changed the fuel filter, air filter spark plugs. Problem remains. I took it to the auto shop they tested the battery and said it was fine, But said th alternotor is on it's way out.
But I have been reading on here it may be the fuel regulator. So What do you guys think?
Once it starts it drives perfectly.

Long cranking time is a symptom of a bad fuel pressure regulator. Also, check the FPR vacuum line for any fuel although it's not always present. You can place a fuel pressure tester on the shrader valve (located on the fuel rail) and see how long the fuel pressure holds after you stop the engine. It should never drop to zero even sitting all night. Once you turn the key to position II it should immediately return to ~45 psi as the fuel pump kicks on.
