Hello I have a 2000 volvo S40. For the past month or so my car has been having a hard time starting, it will crank for a while and will eventually start. Also it acts strange while idling, the needle will bounce between 0/1. On occasion it will stall. Recently it's also started to smell faintly of gasoline when I try and accelerate quickly. My mechanic fixed the idle air intake valve and then had me use a bottle of techron to clean everything out but the problem is still happening. Any suggestions?

 

Also I sometimes has to press the gas for it to start

 

Shelbi check your fuel pressure regulator. It's under cover for throttle, pull small rubber vacuum line and if any gas comes out its bad. Those are notorious for extended crank complaints.
