My son has a 2001 S40 and is away at school. Recently, he has been noticing that the car at times would accelerate on its own. The cruise control is off. Tonight, as he was leaving his apartment, it started to accelerate again so he pulled over. He said that the power steering and power brakes also appeared to go out. Now the car won't start. The engine light has been on the last few weeks, but he couldn't get a code from his OBDII reader. He was going to take it to Auto Zone tomorrow to have them read it, but it's too late now. Any ideas what could be wrong?
