Default takes its own sweet time

Hey all, I'm new to the forum and new to newer volvos. (had several mid 80's with 250-350k). Anyways...I have a '98 s70 turbo with 200k on it. My problem is as follows. When I turn the key every electrical thing works but the engine will not turn over. If I leave the key in position 2 for a minute or so the car will start right up although this method may take 2 or 3 attempts. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, sounds like some sort of relay/starter solenoid issue to me. Check connections to starter itself. Possibly bad ignition switch itself, or some sort of other starting circuit malfunction, frayed wires, corroded connections etc.

PNP, NSS is the same thing I assume.Tech, Is that sensor mounted on Tranny or gear shifter itself on volvos? That would definatley be something to look at too rob. I wonder about any starter relays in line with circuit as well, I dont have schematics, or I could help a little bit more. I looked in my L-shaped circuit box under hood, there are relays located in there. Now two of them say Heila on them, those have to be for lights or something else, there is oneother relayin there that has a letter "J" on it. That might be a starter relay, not 100% sure. You can bench test relays, something cheap and easy to try. Those would be very likely suspects, given the intermitency of your problem. I wish I could be of more help.
