2001 S40 upper radiator hose replacement

2006 S40 upper radiator hose replacement
I am in the process of replacing the upper rad hose on a 2006 S40.
This is for a friend who lives 100 miles away. I buy the hose and toss a couple screwdrivers and pair of channel lock pliers into my car to go help her out. Well I get there and it looks like the whole damn engine needs to come out to get the upper hose off
Thought it was going to be a 10 min job. I had to leave her stranded.
This is def not your standard rad hose replacement and I'm shocked I can not find any info on this? I was told take out battery, airbox, main brain, and the left clavicle......
Heading back down there Saturday, any help would be greatly appreciated!
