2002 1.9 S40 No Start

Default 2002 1.9 S40 No Start

Noticed a little rattle sound at low RPMs around the timing belt area. Started to feel a little sluggish and fuel consumption went up. Didnt have time to really check it out during the week and went to start it on Saturday and it failed to start. Timing belt was covered in oil which I'm assuming caused it to jump some teeth. Vehicle also threw 7 codes. 2 Evan leaks, misfire on all 4 cylinders and 1 for camshaft sensor. A bad sensor would make sense but I'm leaning more towards the timing belt issue. What do you think could be the best course of action?

(Engine only has 131k miles and timing belt was changed at 110k miles.

Be careful, because you don't want the valves to get in a fistfight with the pistons (if the belt has slipped too much). First, I'd suggest checking the timing marks to see if the timing HAS slipped. Next, figure out where the oil is coming from, which will drive the next (major) part of your effort (which will include another new timing belt, of course).

a compression or leak down test may be in order as well to see if there's already some valve damage, but note that jumping timing can lower your compression reading. Figure 150 PSI is about where you'd expect to be.

Performed compression test, all valves hit 120 psi. Belt jumped 7 teeth, and I believe that the oil came from the VVT gear?

You're very lucky that no valves were damaged (kind of surprised with a 7 tooth jump, but I suppose it's got to get more like 1/4 rotation on the cam pulley off before you start munging valves).

You're going to have to trace down the oil leak to make sure you don't have a repeat performance. Hopefully the path the oil took to get to the TB will lead you to the source....
