2002 Volvo s40 antenna replacement
Well it happened again. My retractable antenna on my 2002 Volvo s40 is bent. I guess that I must replace it. I usually get one from Amazon for about $ 21.00, but it is not Volvo made.
Any place besides Amazon where I can get one and it is made by Volvo? Or at least made for Volvo.
Also, is it hard to replace the antenna on a 2002 Volvo s40? How do you do it?
Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It's not difficult to replace. With the stereo off, remove the nut at the base and slide off. Turn on the stereo and as the mast rises, note the orientation of the teeth on the nylon cord (note the newer 04 models are different, no teeth).
The antenna should rise and continue to do so until the nylon is free from the motor. Note there is a thin sleeve at the base thaat needs to be transferred to the new one. Lightly lubricate the antenna at the joints, insert the new one as far a possible with the teeth in the same orientation. Turn off the stereo and the motor should pull in the new antenna. Install the nut, and turn on/off a couple of time to get it to extend/retract fully. You may want a helper to turn on/off the stero while you hold the antenna.
There's a you tube video of someone replacing it on an S40, so a search for it.

Problem in removing telescoping antennna from 2002 s40
I saw the Youtube video, it actually is for removing a telescoping antenna on a SAAB.
I tried the first step and found a wrench to remove to base of the antenna - so as too pull out the serrated strip with which I must remember the orientation on the Youtube video. The bolt is not hexadecimal as it is in the video. In fact it is round. So no fixed wrench will unscrew it.
I guess there is someway to remove (not using a fixed sized wrench), but I am not sure what it is.
Any help appreciated.

Okay, now I have taken out the old system and retained the bolt that I had to untighten to remove the whole assembly.
The next question is what do I do with the smaller piece of antenna mast (I guess that is what you call it)? It is separate from the antenna mast.
It is much shorter that the actual antenna mast that contains the serrated white plastic line for moving the antenna in and out of the well of the car. I believe it goes around the current mast, but that is only a guess.
Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I believe that I should call that smaller antenna mast part a grounding retaining sleeve.
That is its official name. I need to know what to do with it. Do I simply put the antenna mast through it and in which direction should I install it? It can only go on one of two ways.
Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.
