Hi,

I'm new to these forums, but I guess I may becomemore active in the next few days. I just put money down on a 2003 S40 4 cyl. The dealer (it's a Honda dealer) swears this car doesn't have a turbo. I looked under the hood and didn't see anything that was marked as a turbo nor did anything look like a turbo. I called a local Volvo dealer and they said they only made a turbo S40 in 2003. Now I'm really confused. I looked at various car part stores online and they only list turbo engines. I found a few forums (not this one) where there are some references to non-turbo S40s for this year.

So my question is very simple. Did Volvo produce a non-turbo S40 in 2003?

and googled both engine numbers for S/V40, and they were both listed as turbo engines.

Thanks for checking on this. I feel a little foolish for not being able to recognize a turbo myself. I guess I expected it to be more pronounced, like "look at this, it's a TURBO!". I guess if you put one on just about every car you produce, it would tend to be lower key.

We didn't want a turbo, but wecouldn't pass up the price on this car. Hopefully it'll last for us. I see a lot of activity in the S40 forum, so hopefully that's not a bad sign.

It does say "1.9 T" on the back........

 

every 1.9Liter s40 from 2000-2004 is turbo'd..dont know bout other countries but the volvos in theUS that are 00-04 which are considered phase 1 and phase 2's are turbo charged with the 12t turbo from mitsubishi!
