Default 2003 V40 Fuel Injection Pressure Regulator

My first question here. I have a 2003 V40. I had read that hard starts are mainly due to Fuel Pressure Regulators. I was getting ready to install the new regulator, and I found that mine is part of the fuel rail. I have done some searches, but I haven't any information on ones that are molded into the fuel rail. I am not sure what my next step should be.

Strange.

Does yours have what appears to be a cotter pin holding the round part into the fuel rail? On my 2001, even though the FPR was held on with a single 10mm bolt, there was clearly an outer portion and an inner portion held in place by a cotter pin. That metal cylindrical object is the actual FPR as it holds the spring and diaphragm. Check out the IPD website for a picture: Volvo Fuel Pressure Regulator - S40 V40 113785 9404583

Here is a picture. It does appear to have a cotter pin holding the FPR in.

Thats it. Just stick a flathead screw driver behind the pin and lever it out. The FPR will pull out from the bottom of the housing. I removed the rubber hose running along the bottom of your pic too for easier access. Be sure the release the fuel pressure before doing this.

Also, I had to lube the new FPR with a little vasoline on the upper o-ring before it would fit into the housing far enough for the pin to be put back into place.

I want to thank both of you for the great information! I was able to change it out in about fifteen minutes.
