I'm a new member to Volvo forums but a long term owner of Volvo's. I have a 2004.5 S40 that is making a loud rattling noise from the front passenger side. I just replaced both front struts but the noise is still there. I took it to the dealer and they said that I need new cv joints/axles. I just bought a new set and wanted to know if there is anything special that I need to know before swapping them out. I have owned LandRovers in the past so thus I am very good at working on my own vehicles. Has anyone replaced them on theirs yet that could give me any advice or tips. This is the 2004.5 model which looks like the 2005 model. Thanks.

 

I just finished replacing the cv joints and axles and the noise is still there. After investigating it further I found out that the motor mounts are bad. Does anyone know a good place to get motor mounts?

When you replaced the struts, did you replace the strut mounts as well? That's what was causing my rattling. fyi
