2005 S40 Heater, Idle and engine fan issues
Hello,
I have a 2005 S40 2.4i. Last week my heater stopped working and only blows cold air. The Air-conditioner works, but when it's on the car runs very rough.
Today with and with out the air on the car is running very rough, hesitates when accelerating and when sitting at a light idles like it is going to stall.
When I got home and turned off the car- removed the key, a fan in the engine ran for another 5 minutes. What could this be?
Thank you.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
You likely have a couple of problems. First one being that your temp sensor could be bad. Does your temp needle show proper levels?
As for the heat not working, again, were is the temp needle? These cars have vent blend valves that people often overlook on the dash. It will let cool air vent into the upper vents. It looks like an extra control along the row of vents.

Good Morning,
Thank you for your response. You were correct I had a couple of problems. The Radiator hose was broken ( Coolant very low), an Ignition coil needed to replaced and they did replace the Thermostat. Car is running great. Just watching carefully in case there is some damage to a Gasket. Mechanic found no issues with the Head or Gaskets when repairing and testing the car.

Since my last post the car has been running great. Tonight, I got home and the radiator fan stayed on after the car was turned off. The engine was very hot. The coolant in the filled. No coolant loss.
Radiator hose was replaced, Thermostat was replaced and one ignition coil was replaced.
Now What? Should I continue to drive the car to work tomorrow or should I bring it in again.
Thank you,
Raina

Was the coolant temp in the normal range on your gauge? Did the fan cut off after awhile? If you answer yes to both and the coolant level stays at the full cold mark by morning then I'd drive it as normal. If it's overheating or losing coolant then I would start looking for answers.
Relief. Yes coolant is at normal level and temp gauge remained in the middle.
Drove the same long route yesterday and all was well.
Just overly cautious..I guess.
Have a great weekend,
