Default 2005 S40 T5, should I get it?

Going to look at it this weekend, has 128K on the clock, they want $9,000 at a dealer. Normally I stay away from dealers, but this one is a big, well known dealer (not one of those hole in the walls).

I'm leery about getting a T5. AWD to me means more potential for something to fail, especially with the turbo, although I've read that it's 10psi max.

How are these 2.5l w/turbo? Any known problems or issues? It has an auto tranny.

I've fallen in love with these cars. I recently totaled my Ford Focus, and I am set on getting an S40. I had my goal set on a particular car, but it sold before I could get the funds together. I also really want a manual, but it doesn't sound like the T5's come with manuals?

Alright guys, school me

They do come in a 6-speed manual, and I love it.

If properly maintained, the 2.5L T5 is a fantastic engine. I'm not aware of any major systemic issues with this platform. Mine is FWD, I found a few in AWD but I'm not a huge fan of the Haldex system in this car, but there isn't anything wrong with it.

If a manual transmission is important to you, I'd hold out for one

9k is a little pricey with that many miles on it, id try and haggle him down on it and at that many miles you gotta make sure it's been serviced. Other then awd t5's are awesome foes it has a sports package? Body kit, spoiler etc?

Well that one I originally posted about had sold. Found another though.

There are NOT that many of these on the market, which to me says a lot.

It's an 05 T5 6spd, but FWD, with 109K on the clock. Only thing wrong with it is the CD changer does not work. Not a big deal. He wants 9,200, but we will negotiate.

Going to look at is this evening and will put a deposit down for him to hold it until I get back home and get the loan ready, to pay cash.

He is second owner, has used synthetic oil and 92 octane since he got it in 08. He said he's done nothing mechanically to it, that it's been extremely reliable, and has all the maintenance records.

Sounds like a good deal plus lower miles. Do it!

Oh yeah, as long as it's as described, then he's got a sold car. I'm excited.

My step dad has a 07 S40 5spd. I went to go visit and my Focus needed some work, so I took his car to go scrambling for parts, and fell in love with it. A few weeks later when I totaled my Focus (about a week ago), I started looking for cars. When I found that I could have one of these cars for a very good price, my goal was set.

I usually do all my own work, and have become very mechanically inclined over the past 8 years, out of necessity, and then it became a hobby and a passion. So I'm sure I will become a frequent poster of this forum...or maybe, hopefully not

I do know that parts for these cars cost more than I'm used to, so hopefully I won't have to touch it mechanically for at least 6 months, to give me a good savings when I do start replacing things. I know the timing belts on these are supposed to be replaced at 120K, so I'll be saving for that and probably have it done. I know a guy who's a Volvo mechanic and he's been recommended, and has been said to do work on the side. Got a rough estimate of $600 for a timing belt/water pump install. For that kind of money, I'd be willing to let him turn the wrenches on that project.

I'll update in the morning on how the car looks, and with any luck, it'll be mine on Saturday.

Watch the CD changer not working. You cannot add an aftermarket stereo in these cars. (at least not mine with the climate control built in)

Also, before the 2007 model there is no Ipod connection and no way to add one.

Appreciate the input, not a huge deal right now. Other than that, the car FAR exceeded my expectations and the pics in the ad didn't do it justice. It's a blast to drive, he let me open her up on the freeway....insane.

Gave him a deposit, will be picking up my new car on Saturday. Then I'll have a solid two hr drive to have fun with it.

Yeah I've seen those before on youtube when I was looking for random videos of S40's. I'll just use an FM transmitter for now....only thing I don't like about those is the music quality is never as good.

Here's a pic of the car, who knows, maybe the guy I just bought it from is on here.

Nice very nice. You need to throw some hid's on it though. Do you plan on modding it at all?

Nah, I plan on keeping it stock...for now. I need it to last a long time, and in my experience when you start modding cars it can affect reliability in the long run. So for now, stock. In a few years I may. I don't ever PLAN on selling it, so when it's paid off and I get another car after, then I'll toy with this one.

HIDs are something I've wanted to do, they look nice. Recommendations?

Here are some pics of it after I washed it.

Couldn't be happier, I've put 300 miles on it since I've got it.

The first owner had put exhaust on it, and on the tips it says "Evolution" or something like that. I've seen a few cars that were the "Evo" edition, or something of that nature. Is this where the exhaust came from? Love the sound of it, it's unique. I'm used to big cam'd V8's, so I never thought I'd enjoy exhaust like this, I'm pleasantly surprised.

Also, what are these seats made of? They aren't leather.
