2005 S40 Winter Tire Question
I'm looking for some winter tires to get ready for our Canadian winter.
I was told by the Volvo dealer that the wheel nuts on the alloy wheels cannot be used on the winter steel wheels. Apparently the steel wheels need a different tapered nut that cost $65 a set. He said they once put on steel wheels with the alloy nuts and the wheel fell off 2 blocks from the dealership(???).
The manual says...
Wheel nuts
There are two different types of wheel nut, depending on whether the wheels are steel or aluminum.
Steel rims - low nut
Steel rims are normally secured using the low type of nut, although steel rims may also use the high type.
Can anyone confirm or deny this? Which is right the dealer or the manual?
Thanks,
Rainor

Yes. That's what I did. Tire dealer said the same thing. Firestone Winterforce Snow tires on steel wheels. My daughter had to use the car in an ice and snow storm. 2006 S40 T5 AWD. Everybody else was stuck on this one hill she had to go up. She drove around several cars and the people just stared at her in disbelief! Great tire! Rated higher than Bridgestone Blizzacks! Tom
