Default 2006 S40 question

My wife drives our S40 and she's a gas and brake type of driver (never coasts and always stays on the gas until she needs to brake). How many miles should her brakes last? I'm just looking to see what everyone found their mileage to be before the pads needed replacement. She's at 30K now. Also, what's the cost for pads installed by a dealership?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

longevitiy of the pads depends on the pads themselves and your driving habits, I cant answer that accurately, but ball park pads should last at least 10-15000 miles, as far as price, every stealership is different, make some calls...

well I had to change the brake pads on my 2004 s40 around 20k. by then they were completely worn down and grinding against the wheel plate. i would highly advise AGAINST changing them at the dealership. They will rip you off. I changed mine at my mechanic's and it cost 250$ for 4 of them. He didn't charge me labor, so that's pretty much the price range of the actual pads. hope i helped.

The Volvo pads stop beautifully but are very soft and don't last long. Your rotors will wear quickly too. I bought mine at 31k miles and had to replace the pads almost immediately. I replaced them several more times as the mileage climbed to 120k. I finally got tired of the deep grooves in the rotor and the heavy brake dust and switched to Brembo rotors and carbon-metallic pads. Now it stops great and the dust is very low.

I wouldn't go to the dealer for anything but a recall fix. They do not have your best interests in mind normally. You can change your brakes with simple hand tools. Use the money you save to buy the tools needed for the job. It is so simple you will be amazed.
